About:
The Great Lakes Ghost Society -
- The GLGS was formed
in 1996 and was originally named The Great Lakes Ghost Hunters
Society. The group developed as a branch of the Michigan Anomalous
Information Network (MAIN). As local interest grew in the research
and investigation of what is considered by many to be "paranormal"
phenomena MAIN splintered into the GLGHS to focus specifically
on these events, (Ghosts, Hauntings, Psychic Phenomena, Remote
Viewing, etc.). We provide investigations and
consultations to individuals who believe they are experiencing
these types of phenomena. Our members also hold lectures/seminars
and workshops in the hopes of creating a more and better informed
community of individuals who share a similar mind-set regarding
these experiences. In 2005 The Great Lakes Ghost Hunters Society
officially changed it's name to The Great Lakes Ghost Society.
- Our
investigations and on-site research is free of charge. Our researchers
act in a professional manner showing the utmost care and concern
for not only the matter being researched but the community at
large as well. The goal of these investigations is to collect,
compile and archive information so that an unbias well-researched
history can be collected and passed along to other researchers.
Our investigations follow through to whatever conclusion no matter
what that conclusion may be. Unlike many other "paranormal"
organizations we do not employ or use "psychics" in
our investigations. Psychic phenomena (methods
and means) are part of what we are researching, we believe using
it to research itself is counterproductive. We understand that
there are a multitude of people who are interested in "paranormal"
phenomena, and that many of these people believe running around
graveyards and abandon houses is helping to resolve a series of
questions that humankind has of itself, but in many cases we believe
that this only hinders those researchers, scientists and investigators
who are trying to create a well-founded and accepted scientific
field.
- Our
investigations run from April to October of each year. In special
cases we will investigate during the winter months but this is
only after a rigorous vetting process. Our lectures, seminars
and workshops continue throughout the entire year.
- Our
by-laws and constitution outline how and why our organization
functions in the manner in which it does. Members agree to abide
by these by-laws as well as our strict code of ethics and research
methodology. We believe that only when the "paranormal"
community starts to take itself seriously will progress in this
field be made.
- Our motto
is "Scire quod sciendum" which is latin for
"Knowledge which is worth having". It is a
major goal of our organization to construct, aquire, transfer,
archive and maintain knowledge about paranormal phenomena that
is "worth having".
